L.A. Reid’s career began when he was introduced to a drummer from the rock band Pure Essence. Essence was the name given to it after it was renamed. He was a member of the band ‘The Deele’ in the 1980s. Before disbanding, it released the hit single “Two Occasions.”
Together with Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, he co-founded LaFace Records in 1989. It quickly became a popular hangout for a variety of artists. He then signed who had 14 on his label at the time.
