Gary began playing snooker when he was three years old. He joined a local league with a team when he was eight years old, but some teams refused to let a child play. Then he won Junior Big Break: Stars of the Future, a BBC snooker show, defeating Ronnie O’Sullivan and Jimmy White. He even became the country’s most promising junior player after winning the UK Under-18 tournament thrice.
