In the current pandemic season, Tom Rhys Harries even mentioned how the show provided escapism. “If the show can provide light escapism for people right now, I believe it has a place, and that’s a good thing.” There’s a scene at the beginning where you can see banners advertising the 2020 Ibiza launch celebrations, which is obviously now an alternate reality.”

“I suppose you could even make an argument in this pandemic that White Lines has turned like an episode of Black Mirror,” he added.

Aside from the sensation of liberation and nostalgia for the 1990s, the show also tackles the serious issue of drug usage and its effects. Unlike other shows, White Lines does not glorify drug usage, instead focusing on the negative consequences.

“I believe that how something is portrayed is critical… Not to limit narrative, but I’d feel a responsibility as an actor… to be progressive in how the tale is conveyed, especially on such a large stage.” Simultaneously, Tom relished the opportunity to film for the show, rediscovering the original retro look and experimenting on the various outfits.

“Manchester in particular was so colorful, and there was an outpouring of creativity there during that period. The aesthetic was so vibrant and varied, and a mish-mash of so many touches. I adore the minor details like the turn-ups on the trousers, and the shoes.”
