Monday Night Football: Matt Ryan officially a healthy scratch
Monday Night Football (26 December): The Colts will start their third quarterback of the season and their seventh since Andrew Luck surprisingly retired at the start of the 2019 season. Nick Foles gets the start on Monday Night Football for the sixth franchise for whom he has made at least one start.
Sam Ehlinger, who has started two games this season, will be Foles’ backup.
Matt Ryan is the backup quarterback and a healthy scratch. That is expected to be the case for the remainder of the season. And since the Colts need Ryan to be healthy in order to release him at the end of the season.
Ryan is guaranteed $12 million in 2023, but if he does not pass a physical by the middle of March. The Colts will owe him an additional $17.025 million.
