Franklin began preaching at the age of 16, first on the black itinerant preaching circuit before settling at New Salem Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, where he stayed until May 1944. Furthermore, he took over as pastor of the Friendship Baptist Church in Buffalo, New York. He remained there until June 1946, when he was appointed pastor of the New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit.
Similarly, his fame grew in the late 1940s and 1950s. While keeping his pulpit at New Bethel, he preached all over the country. Moreover, he is known as the man with the “Million Dollar Voice”. Many of Franklin’s sermons were recorded and broadcast on radio on Sundays until the 1970s. Similarly, he demanded up to $4000 per public appearance, which was a lot of money at the time.
Furthermore, “The Eagle Stirreth Her Nest” and “Dry Bones in the Valley” were two of his most famous sermons.
