The NFC Championship Game between the Eagles and the 49ers got a little chippy as Philadelphia continued to chew the clock off en route to a 31-7 victory in the Super Bowl. Following a 6-yard run by Christian McCaffrey, both teams piled into a skirmish on the field in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

The shoving split into two piles, and tempers flared in the pile closest to midfield, which included 49ers star tackle Trent Williams and Eagles safety K’Von Wallace.

As officials attempted to separate the players and defuse the situation, Williams grabbed Wallace and ripped him to the ground, as players from both sides of the field made their way onto the field. Officials ordered both teams to their respective sidelines and announced that Williams and Wallace had been ejected from the game.

It was a frustrating way for San Francisco’s season to end, as injuries to the quarterback position continued to define the franchise.

Brock Purdy, who rose to prominence after injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo earlier in the season, injured his elbow in the first quarter and was replaced by fourth-stringer Josh Johnson. Johnson then suffered a concussion, leaving the 49ers without a healthy quarterback to help them compete for the NFC title game. With that in mind, it appears that San Francisco’s frustrations are the source of this altercation, which may result in even more punishment from the NFL.

The Eagles, who have already punched their ticket to Super Bowl LVII, will now see if the actions of anyone involved in this skirmish, including Wallace, will have any bearing on their eligibility for the big game in the eyes of the league.
