At Oxford Plains Speedway in 1986, he made his NASCAR debut in his own No. 12 car, finishing 25th due to engine failure. Four years later, he won Rookie of the Year in the Busch North Series.
In 1999, he accepted a contract with Scott Barbour’s SBIII Motorsports, a brand new NASCAR team, to drive the No. 58 Ford Taurus. After a few weeks, he joined another new team, Midwest Transit Racing. Similarly, he returned to the team in 2000, but the team reduced its timetable to part-time after failing to qualify for four of the first nine events.
In 2005, he went to the Craftsman Truck Series to drive for Roush Racing in the No. 99 Ford.
