Early life and family
Krishnan was born in Madras, India (now Chennai), and grew up on Staten Island, where she attended New Dorp High School, where Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man was one of her classmates. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and served as president of the senior class at Dickinson College in 1993.
Krishnan’s previous experience in the New York news market included a stint as a general assignment reporter at WCBS-TV from June 1997 to July 2001. In 1995, she worked at ABC affiliate WUTR-TV in Utica, New York, as an anchor, reporter, and producer for the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts. In 1994, she began her career in broadcasting at WLIG-TV on Long Island. Krishnan worked in a number of roles during her year there, from filming, composing, and editing news stories behind the camera to front-of-the-camera reporting.
Krishnan first started her pursuit of a career in broadcasting during her internship at WLIG-TV. She was a morning/noon anchor and reporter for WHP-TV, the CBS affiliate in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, prior to joining WCBS-TV. TWA Flight 800, the “Million Man March,” and the 1996 floods that wreaked havoc on central Pennsylvania were among the stories she reported. Krishnan covered breaking news for CBS 2’s 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts while at WCBS-TV. The Clinton impeachment hearings, then-Mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s cleanup of Times Square, the Abner Louima beating, and the 1998 race between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa to be the first to break Roger Maris’ single-season home run record were among the stories she covered.
In addition to her Emmy, Krishnan has received the Project Impact (formerly Indian American Political Awareness Committee) “Creating A Voice” Award and the Office of the Comptroller of the City of New York’s Distinguished Broadcast Journalist commendation for her coverage of the September 11 attacks. She was a celebrity judge for the 2005 Iron Skillet Cookoff as part of her community service. Krishnan appeared as a mob reporter in HBO’s The Sopranos episode “Two Tonys” in March 2004.

On September 17, 2007, she revealed her marriage to Eric Schroeder on the CW11 Morning News. Kiran, her son, was born on July 22, 2009. They live in New York’s Westchester County.
