He played for the team for three seasons before being traded to the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League for the 2006–07 season. Also, he was chosen 71st overall by the Dallas Stars on July 30, 2005, during the third round of the NHL Entry Draft. On March 25, 2007, he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars.
Furthermore, Clune debuted in the AHL on April 14 with Dallas’ affiliate, the Iowa Stars. In July 2008, he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings for Lauri Tukonen. He suffered a chest ailment during training camp on October 6, 2008, which resulted in his trade to the Manchester Monarchs.
In addition, he played with the Monarchs until the 2012–2013 season, when he inked a deal to play for the Nashville Predators. On July 5, 2015, Clune signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
