Fieger has worked on a number of high-profile and contentious cases. In the first of many doctor-assisted suicide trials, he represented Jack Kevorkian in 1994. Also, in that trial, as well as all subsequent cases in which Fieger represented Kevorkian, he was acquitted.

(In his last assisted suicide trial in 1999, Kevorkian was found guilty after representing himself.) These events were adapted into a film, You Don’t Know Jack, which aired on HBO and starred Danny Huston as Fieger.

Among the other prominent clients and cases are:

• Scott Amedure’s family sued The Jenny Jones Show for wrongful death and negligence in 1999.
• Isaiah Shoels’ family, who died in the Columbine High School massacre.
• Ralf Panitz is accused of killing his ex-wife Nancy Campbell-Panitz in July 2000, after they appeared on The Jerry Springer Show with Panitz’s new wife. In 2002, Panitz was found guilty.
• The family of Aiyana Jones, a seven-year-old girl who was shot by police during a raid in 2010 while a crew was filming an episode of the A&E reality show The First 48.
• On behalf of the family of Jacqueline Nichols, 64, a pedestrian killed when a cruiser collided with her during a police pursuit in Flint on July 3, 2014, a complaint was filed against the Michigan State Police.
• The state decided to pay $7.7 million to settle the case.
• A $100 million class action lawsuit was filed on behalf of four Genesee County residents who contracted Legionnaires’ disease during the Flint water crisis in 2014-2015, including one woman who died seven days after visiting the emergency room with a headache. McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint, as well as many Michigan Department of Environmental Quality officials, are named as defendants in the lawsuit.

• a suggestion that his rival, John Engler, was the product of human-barnyard animal hybridization; a claim that “rabbis are closer to Nazis than they think.”
• the statement that, “We’ve probably made someone who is the equivalent of Elvis into God in 2,000 years, so I see no reason why Elvis won’t be God in 2,000 years. Were we to go back 2,000 years and say, “You know, we think Jesus is God, and Jesus is just some goofball who got nailed to the cross,” we’d probably get a different answer.”
• a radio interview in which he called Michigan appellate judges “jackasses” for overturning a $15 million medical malpractice verdict that he had received. (The Michigan Supreme Court later upheld a lower court reprimand based on these remarks.)
