Career
Laura has always been fascinated by the jungles, slaking deer, and abandoned coyote dens in her hometown. It eventually contributed to her developing an early love for wild animals, which turned into a passion. She began teaching primitive survival at the Great Hollow Wilderness School in Connecticut while she was still in college, studying ethnobotanical plants and their uses.
Laura then did an internship with the Buffalo Field Campaign in West Yellowstone, Montana, in 2004. She was able to witness the killing of the last wild bison herd there. After that, in 2007, she relocated to Vermont and started teaching at the Roots School. Laurato spends her free time mushroom hunting in Oregon, horse treks at the Vermont Icelandic Horse Farm, and tree planting for the Forest Service in Idaho, among other things.
