She was the captain of the soccer team there, while Brad appeared in all 101 DePauw games, earning four varsity letters. Their friendship grew out of their shared interest in sports. Their third date involved a long drive to see a high school basketball game. And it wasn’t even a high school basketball game at a high school they both attended.
Brad was offered the opportunity to volunteer in the Butler basketball office in the summer of 2000, and Tracy Wilhelmy encouraged him to take it. Brad stated, “It now appears to be a fantastic idea. I thought it was something I really wanted to try at the time.”
Tracy, on the other hand, began law school in order to obtain a J.D., which would allow the couple to support themselves if Stevens’ situation did not improve. They recall, “We were 23 years old when we realized this was our chance. We were probably not going to be in a position to do that in five years. The more successful you were at Lilly, the more difficult it would be to leave.”
Tracy and Brad married on August 8, 2003, in Cuyahoga, Ohio. Despite this, the couple is stronger than ever in the midst of their life’s ups and downs.
