He was also Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors under Richard M. Nixon. His mother, Mrs. Stein, was a stay-at-home mother. Ben was reared with his literary sister Rachel Stein. He is 76 years old as of April 2021 and stands 5 feet 11 inches tall.
He went on to graduate from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Springs, Maryland, in 1962. He continued his education at Columbia University, where he received an honors degree in economics in 1966. In June 1970, he graduated from Yale Law School as valedictorian.
