Anthony Jordan Price (born October 7, 1986) is a former professional basketball player from the United States who most recently played for the Chinese Basketball Association’s Shandong Golden Stars (CBA). He grew up in East Massapequa, New York, and was born in Orange, New Jersey. He is son of former NBA player Tony Price.

Career in high school

Price went to Amityville Memorial High School, where as a sophomore and junior, he led the Warriors to three straight Long Island Championships and state titles. He averaged 25.4 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals as a junior (2003). As a senior, he continued to improve his numbers, averaging 28.5 points and eight rebounds. He had 130 three-pointers and 1,394 points throughout the course of his three-year career. He was named Suffolk County Player of the Year twice by Newsday.Price, a four-star recruit, was ranked as the No. 7 point guard and No. 32 player in the country by Rivals.com in 2004.

Education background

Over Florida State, Kansas, and St. John’s, Price chose UConn. After a life-threatening struggle with AVM, which resulted in brain hemorrhage, he missed his rookie season (2004–05). In February 2005, he had radiosurgery treatment and spent more than 14 months recovering from his condition. He did not return to the court until May 2006, after receiving clearance from his doctors. However, due to infractions of the University Student Code of Conduct, Price was suspended by the university for the 2005–06 academic semester. In August 2005, he and fellow basketball player Marcus Williams were arrested on allegations of attempting to sell stolen laptops. He pled not guilty to the accusations of larceny. Price was unable to attend classes during the Fall 2005 semester, but was able to return in the Spring 2006 semester. As a sophomore, he returned to the court for the 2006–07 season. He played in all 31 games, starting 23 of them at point guard. He averaged 9.4 points per game this season, with 113 assists and 37 steals in 23.9 minutes a game. Price was UConn’s second top scorer in the 2007–08 season, starting all 33 games at point guard. He was chosen to the All-America Team of the United States Basketball Writers Association. He was also named to the First Team All-BIG EAST squad, USBWA District Player of the Year and All-District First Team, a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award, and one of ten finalists for the USBWA Player of the Year Award, the Oscar Robertson Trophy, and the NABC All-District 1 First Team. Price played nine minutes against San Diego in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament before injuring his left anterior cruciate ligament. The team went on to lose the game in overtime by one point. The following season, 2008–09, was Price’s best. He was the Huskies’ best scorer with 14.7 points per game coming off the ACL injury, and he was instrumental in their run to the final four. He forced overtime in a game against Gonzaga by hitting a falling down three-pointer. On June 25, 2009, the Indiana Pacers selected Price in the second round of the 2009 NBA draft, at number 52 overall. Price, along with Earl Watson, moved ahead of T. J. Ford on the team’s depth chart halfway through the 2009–10 season. Watson was named the starter in December, and Price was named the primary backup point guard. Price backed up Darren Collison when George Hill was injured during the 2011–12 season, but he saw fewer minutes after the Pacers acquired Leandro Barbosa. Price joined the Washington Wizards on July 24, 2012. Price joined the Minnesota Timberwolves on September 30, 2013. The Timberwolves waived him on April 3, 2014. Price joined the Cleveland Cavaliers on September 26, 2014. He was dismissed by the Cavaliers on November 1, 2014, before appearing in a regular season game for them. Price joined the Indiana Pacers on November 6, 2014, to assist the team deal with a slew of injuries. Indiana had to invoke an NBA hardship exemption to sign him because he increased their roster size to 16, which was one more than the allowable limit of 15. The Pacers waived him on November 28, 2014. The Cavaliers claimed him off waivers two days later. The Cavaliers waived him again on January 7, 2015. He signed a 10-day contract with the Phoenix Suns on March 21 and made his debut later that night in a 117–102 win over the Houston Rockets, earning 2 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist. Following the conclusion of his 10-day contract on March 31, he was not retained by the Suns. Price joined the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association in September 2015. He later joined the Shandong Golden Stars for the 2016–17 season

Personal life

Price is the oldest of Tony and Inga Price’s two children. Raven is the name of his younger sister. Tony’s father was a standout basketball player at the University of Pennsylvania, helping the team reach the Final Four of the 1979 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. Tony was the tournament’s best scorer with 142 points, earning him a berth on the East Regional All-Tournament Team in 1979.
