Teen Actor Tyler Sanders died from the fentanyl Overdose
Tyler Sanders, the 18-year-old star of Amazon’s Just Add Magic: Mystery City who was found dead in his Los Angeles home in June, died from the effects of fentanyl, according to the L.A. County Medical Examiner-Coroner. His death was ruled accidental by the coroner.

During its examination, the coroner’s report found no other causes of death or serious ailments. Sanders‘ case has been closed.
Sanders appeared as a guest star in 9-1-1: Lone Star, Fear the Walking Dead, and The Rookie, as well as in various short films. He first appeared as Young Jake Otto in an episode of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead before taking on the role of Leo in Amazon’s Just Add Magic in 2019. This led to a lead part in the Just Add Magic: Mystery City spinoff series in 2020, which centered on step-siblings Leo (Sanders) and Zoe (Jolie Hoang-Rappaport) and their neighbor Ish (Jenna Qureshi).
Sanders also starred in an episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star from Season 3 and an episode of ABC’s The Rookie from 2018. His filmography includes the 2017 NBC pilot What About Barb? and the 2019 film The Reliant, starring Kevin Sorbo and Julia Denton.

“Tyler was a terrific performer with a promising future,” Sanders’ agent Pedro Tapia said while confirming Sanders’ death on June 16. “He comes from a beautiful family, and we would appreciate it if you could respect their privacy at this time.”
Sanders’ family published statements strongly calling for mental health awareness in the aftermath of his death.
“Tyler was an ambitious, hardworking actor who was suffering from severe and persistent depression,” his father, David Sanders, said. “Despite aggressively pursuing treatment, Tyler was unable to find relief and began to experiment with narcotics. Tyler began using drugs not to have fun socially, but rather to help him cope with his severe mental illness. While we mourn his passing, we are determined to share Tyler’s story in the hopes of expanding the dialogue about this ubiquitous issue.”

His mother, gave her own statement. “Losing Tyler to fentanyl intoxication was extremely difficult. I want folks to understand that we are a family, just like any other, who never imagined this could happen to them. Tyler had a solid support system, yet he couldn’t get over his sadness.
Tyler may have sought intimate connections and brought joy to those around him as a result of his despair. While Tyler battled his inner demons discreetly. Although he was publicly committed to ensure that no one else suffered the same way he did. Tyler loved the Lord, he loved people, and he gave his all every day. It is our honest hope that our tale can help others.”
The “Do More 4 Tyler” program was founded by Joe Nussbaum. And he director of Tyler Sanders’ show Just Add Magic: Mystery City.
“Working with bright, eager, and motivated young actors like Tyler is one of the biggest joys of making kids TV,” Nussbaum remarked. “Tyler was so keen on his acting profession that he would frequently write “Do More” on his hand to remind himself to work hard to attain his ambitions. “Do More” is now our turn.
In Tyler’s honor, I and my colleagues in the children’s television industry have formed the “Do More” Initiative. We aim to change the way the industry views the mental health of our profession’s. And the youngest and most vulnerable employees – child performers.”
