Early Life of Alexander Gustafsson

Alexander Lars-Ake Gustafsson was born in Arboga, a tiny town two hours north of Stockholm, to his parents. With his four younger sisters, he grew up together.

Since his parents divorced when he was young, he was reared by his mother, Eleonora Gustafsson, and his stepfather. Alexander had a tight relationship with his biological father, despite the fact that he lived in another city. His biological father struggled with alcoholism.

He had never been interested in studies and was always eager to participate in sports since he was a child. As a result, he attempted every activity imaginable, including football, welding, and hockey, but he discovered he was made every minute inside the boxing ring.

The Start of a Career

Gustafsson’s adolescent years were difficult, and he was frequently involved in brawls due to a lack of supervision. At the age of 15, he became involved in an amateur scene for the first time. After getting drunk, he was imprisoned as an 18-year-old teen for an aggravated assault on a brother and sister.

His friend cum fan recommended him to MMA after his release in 2006. He discovered August Wallen’s MMA Training Centre, which is run by the Swedish MMA pioneer. As a result, he left his problems and the city behind to pursue MMA.

Stepping Stone for Alexander Gustafsson

Alexander Gustafsson has been boxing since 1997, but it was in 2003 that he won his first National Championship (junior level). But it wasn’t until 2006 that he began formal MMA training. He worked as a construction worker, a bar bouncer, and a scuba divemaster before beginning his fight career.

Gustafsson made his MMA debut in 2007 when he defeated Saku Heikola. He soon returned to fighting in 2008-2009, winning an amateur Swedish heavyweight boxing event. His freshly developed boxing career came to an end the next year in 2010, when he was unable to compete in a national championship event due to his inability to compete in a national championship event.

Alexander Gustafsson | Pre-UFC Matches

Gustafsson began his martial arts career by competing in the sport of shootfighting. He had a 5-1 shot record, with four knockout victories and one decision victory. Mats Nilsson defeated him in the 2007 Kaisho Battle event by a split decision.

Second, he competed in tiny Submission Wrestling and Grabbing matches across Europe and Sweden. Throughout all of the bouts, he stayed aloof. However, his most notable victory came on March 13, 2008, when he knocked off German prospect Florian Muller in the second round.

He replaced his former opponent Florian Muller with Poland’s top prospect Krzysztof Kulak at the end of the same year, following his victory over Matteo Minonzio. Despite the short notice, Gustafsson defeated Krzysztof Kulak with a series of knockouts and enough unanimous decisions.

“The show is finished, gentlemen,” Alexander stated as he declared his retirement from MMA, taking off his gloves and laying them on the cage floor.

However, only a few months after his retirement, word of his comeback spread. Gustafsson fought Swedish MMA prospect Anton Turkalj in a grappling fight in Sweden on December 11, 2019.

Gustafsson confirmed his training trip to America as the COVID 19 ban is lifted during an interview on 3 April 2020. He went on to say that the trip’s outcome would determine his return.

Gustafsson’s brief retirement came to an end on April 5, 2020.

On July 26, 2020, he fought former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum in a scheduled bout. Alexander’s return to active MMA fighting in the UFC began with a loss as part of the heavyweight division through UFC on ESPN 14.
