Early Life

Alfie Hewett was born on December 6, 1997 in Norwich, England. He had an early interest in sports despite being diagnosed with Perthes disease at the age of just 6. His uncommon hip ailment affects blood flow to thigh bones leading to mobility problems to him. However, this condition never made him define himself as such.

Alfie received support from his parents Shaun and Tara Hewett while growing up in a nurturing family setting. There is not much information about his siblings but it is evident that they contributed greatly towards his passion for athletics.

Early Career

At the age of 6 months, Hewett underwent surgery for a congenital heart defect, and later on he was diagnosed with Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease which obstructs blood circulation from the pelvis to the hip joint. He now has serious problems in walking and has been on wheelchair since 6 years age. However, although he can walk, Hewett is not completely active as expected in normal people- his life does not allow him engage in any athletic activity or other activities that require much physical exertion.

Alfie’s talent was evident from the beginning. By just 14 years old, he had already created a name for himself in the juniors, claiming many titles and catching eyes of tennis scouts. It was in 2013 when his career finally began to take off after winning the British Open junior singles title which announced him on an international scene.
