Professional Career of Canadian Singer

In December 2003, Alice Glass and Ethan Kath began work on the project that would become Crystal Castles. After swiping a pin with the names Alice and Hopey Glass, a character in Love and Rockets, she picked the stage name Alice Glass.

The song “Alice Practice” was Crystal Castles’ first official release in 2006. The song got the band their first record deal with London’s Merok Records. The same year, Crystal Castles made their live debut at Clinton’s Tavern in Toronto. The song “Alice Practice” was finally included on their self-titled first album, which was published in 2008.

That year, Glass topped NME’s Cool List and responded by questioning the concept of the cool list itself. Following the publication of their debut album, the band released two more critically acclaimed albums, II (2010) and III (2012), to complete a trilogy.

In October 2014, she announced her departure from Crystal Castles for professional and personal reasons. Later, she had multiple public spats with her ex-bandmate, accusing him of assault and sexual misconduct.

Alice Glass and the lawsuit

In July 2015, Glass released her first solo single, “Stillbirth.” The purpose of the release was primarily to raise awareness about domestic and sexual abuse. She worked with the anti-sexual assault organization RAINN to donate all proceeds from the song’s sales to victims of abuse.

Furthermore, she released “Without Love” in August 2017 as the first single off her self-titled debut EP, which was released the following week. She went on tour with Marilyn Manson once the EP was released.

In October 2017, she issued a statement on her official website detailing her departure from Crystal Castles, accusing co-founder Ethan Kath of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse.

The allegations explain the abuse, which started when Glass was 15 and started recording with Kath and lasted until her departure from Crystal Castles. The same day, she responded through his attorney, calling the claims “pure fiction” and stating that he was discussing with his lawyers about his legal possibilities.

Kath filed a defamation suit against Glass the following month, but her case was dismissed in February 2018. In May, Glass was given almost $21,000 in legal costs after Kath’s lawyers attempted to reverse the rejection of his defamation action against Glass.

Non-album single releases

In January 2018, Glass released “Forgiveness” as the EP’s second single. The next month, she released a new song called “Cease and Desist.” Music videos accompanied both hits.

In April 2018, she launched her SnowBlood Tour, which featured American vocalist Zola Jesus and electronic artist Pictureplane on select dates. Later same month, she released a remix EP with remixes of tracks from her 2017 self-titled EP.

In June 2018, she released a new single called “Mine,” accompanied with a music video made by Lucas David and starring American drag queen Violet Chachki.
