At April 2021 in Des Moines, Iowa, he beat his own Brazilian record with a timing of 48.15 seconds. In the month after, he ran the Mt. Sac leg of the Continental Athletics Tour in a time of 47.84 to break Panama’s Bayano Al Kamani’s South American record. In May 2021, while competing in the Diamond League in Doha, Qatar, he once more shattered the South American record with a time of 47.57. His performance of 47.57 seconds made him the 22nd-best runner to ever compete in the race, and he finished third in the global rankings.
In July 2021, during the Diamond League stage in Oslo, he ran a time of 47.38, breaking the previous South American record.

His time ranked him as the race’s fifteenth-best runner ever. He improved his South American record three days later by winning the Stockholm Diamond League stage with a timing  of 47.34. He set a new South American record with a time of 47.31 in the 400-meter hurdles semifinals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Also, He improved his South American record by winning the bronze medal in the final with a timing of 46.72. He rose to third place in the race’s history at the age of 21.  In April 2022, he ran the 400 meters in 44.54, which is the second-best Brazilian time in history.

He was able to qualify for the Eugene World Championship thanks to his performance. In May 2022, he took home a gold medal from the Diamond League competition in Doha. In June 2022, he took home a gold medal from the Diamond League competition in Stockholm. At the 2022 World Athletics Championships, he ran the 400-meter hurdles in 46.29 seconds, shattering both the South American and the World Championship records. He achieved this by defeating Rai Benjamin and Karsten Warholm to win the title of world champion.
