Anne Mellqueham and Mike Scioscia’s Love Story

McIlquham first saw Mike Scioscia while he was a catcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers. At the time, she was 21 years old and studying to be an X-ray technician at Daniel Freeman Hospital in Inglewood.

After hearing that Scioscia would be signing autographs the next day and being impressed by his playing style, she and her friend decided to extend their homestand and return with homemade cookies. Scioscia, on the other hand, was not signing as planned.

Downcast, she told Jesse, a Dodger Stadium security guard, that she had brought cookies for Scioscia. Mike was informed by the security guard. After a while, Anne and Mike met, and she greeted the 23-year-old MLB player and handed him the cookies. Surprisingly, he tore off the plastic and started eating.

The two walked out of the stadium together. That was on May 3, 1982.

After 20 days, they went on their first date, where they played tennis and then had dinner with Scioscia’s teammate, Ron Roenicke, and his wife, Karen.

Scioscia proposed to her after 18 months of dating. She answered with a resounding YES! The couple married on January 26, 1985, at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church in Thousand Oaks. Jesse, their Dodger Stadium security guard/matchmaker, also attended the wedding.

Two Children Are a Gift

Anne and Mike welcomed their first child, a son named Matthew Michael Scioscia, in September 1988. Taylor, their second child, was born on December 12, 1991. Anne frequently brought the two children to their father’s game.

Matthew played high school baseball for the University of Notre Dame team, following in his father’s footsteps. Furthermore, he was selected by the Angels in the 45th round of the 2011 MLB Draft and was quickly assigned to the AZL Angels. He was later traded to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Wayne Gretzky. He was released by the team on June 14, 2014.

Wife of a Baseball Player

Anne worked as an X-ray technician and was accepted into the Loma Linda University angiography program. She did not, however, enroll; instead, she enrolled in a full-time, major league job.

“My career became being his wife, supporting him, and doing whatever it takes to have our family,” she explains. “Perhaps I was a little dowdy, wanting to stay at home, but I knew I wanted to give everything I had to build our life.”

Resides in Lavish Manion, Thousand Oaks, California (CA), United States.
