Fun fact: Austin Riley has not played baseball since he was a young child. He played football in his earlier years and only decided to play baseball after enrolling in high school.
But like his father before him, he also participated in football at the university as a punter. He participated in baseball games as a high schooler as a pitcher and shortstop.
Austing participated in baseball for the Mississippi State Bulldogs while still a student. The Atlanta Braves selected him in the first round as the 41st overall pick when he was still in high school.
Through the 2015 MBL Draft, he first entered the minor leagues and made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast Braves that same year. He was moved up to the Mississippi Braves by 2017 and later even participated in the Arizona Fall League.
He was transferred once more to play for the Gwinnett Stripers a year later, in 2018. Austin ultimately agreed to terms on a major league deal with the Atlanta Braves in May 2019. With them, he joined a select group of players who have hit eight home runs in as many games (eight) in major league baseball history.
