Career as Player to Manager

Roberto began his football career in 1982 with Balaguer and moved on to Zaragoza in 1990. In 1991, he joined the team Zaragoza and began his senior career. He then went on to play for a variety of clubs, including Zaragoza, Balaguer, Wigan Athletics, Motherwell, Walsall, and Swansea City, when he was named team captain for the first time.

Finally, he arrived in Chester City, where he was also the team captain. He gave up his career as a football player when he was offered the position of football manager. During his career, he appeared in 425 games and scored 30 goals.

He began his career as a football manager with Swansea City, his previous club. He was later promoted to the position of manager of Wigan Athletics. After that, he became the manager of Everton, then in 2016, he took over as the manager of the Belgian national team, where he still works now.

Broadcasting

He has worked as a studio analyst in addition to being a successful football player and manager. He worked on ESPN’s coverage of the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups. Also he did the coverage for the 2012 and 2016 UEFA European Championships. Following that, he covered the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.

He has made multiple guest appearances in the Spanish football program Revista de la Liga, in addition to being a studio analyst. He’s also appeared on BBC’s Match of the Day six times. In June 2020, he was also chosen as one of the experts for CBS Sports Network’s coverage of the UEFA Champions League.
