Bill Nighy

Bill Nighy, a profound award-winning British actor best known for his roles in Love Actually and Pirates of the Caribbean, is suffering from Dupuytren’s contracture, a hereditary condition. Several of his fans may have noticed his contracted fingers on-screen already. The actor is unable to fully straighten his fingers due to his condition.

Nighy’s Professional Achievements and Net Worth

Beginning his acting career with stage performances in 1976, the actor is still active in the industry at the age of seventy-one. Nighy has appeared in a slew of films, television series, and stage productions over the course of his four-decade career.

Among his many credits is Love Actually, Pirates of the Caribbean, Underworld, Still Crazy, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Harry Potter, and the Deathly Hallows- Part 1, and many more.

Furthermore, the British stage and screen actor is likely to have received a number of awards and nominations. He has received ten nominations and fourteen wins from the British Academy Film Awards, British Academy Television Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and Critics Awards.

According to a source, the star’s net worth is estimated to be $8 million due to his massive success in Hollywood, which includes several Box Office hits.

His hands and fingers were affected by the condition.

Fans are always quick to pick up on even the smallest changes in celebrities. And, of course, Nighy’s fans couldn’t help but notice his contracted fingers and bombard the internet with questions about his hands.

Dupuytren’s contracture is causing the problem with his hands. The disease causes the fingers, particularly the pinky and ring fingers, to bend toward the palm, making it difficult to perform everyday tasks such as a handshake, use cutlery, or even fasten a button. As the severity of the condition worsens, the fingers tend to be pulled towards the palm and may permanently bend.

When it comes to the condition itself, it is a hereditary disease that is passed down through genes. It happens when a buildup of cells in the palm develops into lumps under the skin. When the condition worsens, it produces an excess of scar tissue made of collagen.

However, the disease has a significant disadvantage. There is no medical procedure that can cure it. Instead, the disease’s progression can be slowed to some extent. According to data, the condition affects fifteen million people, or more than thirty-five percent of the population in the United States alone.

Furthermore, in addition to Nighy, some other famous faces in the United States suffer from the same condition, including Ronald Reagan, David McCallum, Margaret Thatcher, and others.

According to The Sunday Times, the actor discussed how his condition became visible early on. He stated,

It began in my twenties. It was frightening, and I should have had an operation on them right away, but I didn’t because I was a mess and scared.

The actor went on to say,

One common misconception about me is that I am a member of some occult lodge because I have a spooky handshake! Two of my fingers go into your palm when I shake your hand.
