Following a violent dispute with an unidentified assailant, he was shot and killed at the Westminster, California, 76 petrol station on July 13, 2022. He was filling up his car when Trent Millsap came over and they started talking.
Millsap stabbed East in the chest, and after being brought to the hospital, he succumbed to his wounds. Millsap was later found to be hiding in an apartment in nearby Anaheim while being detained on a parole violation. He was slain in a gunfight with the Orange County police.

At the 2001 USAC National Midget race at the Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Indiana, he set a record by becoming the youngest driver to win a feature event at the age of 16. He won 15 competitions in the three series divisions in the 2004 USAC season.
