Career of Brandon Wardell

Early in 2010, at the age of 17, Brandon Wardell began his career as an open-mic performer before being invited to comedy clubs in the Washington, D.C. area. The Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland, Oregon, and SXSW in Austin, Texas, both invited Wardell to perform in the spring of 2012. In October 2012, The Washington Post ran a profile of him.

After reading the Washington Post article, a Los Angeles agent learned about Wardell, and in the middle of 2013, Wardell joined his team. Wardell accepted the terms, left VCU to pursue a stand-up comedy career in Los Angeles after dropping out.

When Wardell appeared on several podcasts, Bob Odenkirk took notice of his work. As a result, he included Wardell on his late-2014 live comedy CD, Amateur Hour, where he performs on the first four songs. Even though the album was well received, Wardell’s performance received negative reviews from both fans and critics.

According to one critic, Wardell’s performance was terrible because it began with a thud and had forgettable sections. Wardell’s inclusion on the album was deemed unusual by an A.V. Club critic. He joined Bo Burnham on tour in 2015.
