On April 1, 1988, Brook Robert Lopez was born in North Hollywood, California. He is only a minute older than his brother and a half-twin. Before relocating to Fresno, California, with his family, he was raised in North Hollywood. He started his school career at San Joaquin Memorial High School, where he and his twin brother were both involved in the basketball squad. Because of their exceptional play, the two were selected for the 2006 McDonald’s All-American Boys Game.

The twins attended Stanford University when it came time for college, where they played a strong football game. As a rookie, Brook played in more than 26 games, scoring 12.6 points and pulling down 6.0 rebounds per contest on average. His record earned him a spot on the Pac-10 rookie team. As a sophomore, he finished with 19.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game on average. He was also selected to the All-American Third Team and the All-Pac-10 First Team that season.

Playing high school basketball, Brook Lopez was a student at San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno, California. He played on the same floor as NBA players Quincy Pondexter and his brother Robin Lopez. Along with Pondexter, Derrick Jasper, Tre’Von Willis, and his brother, Lopez took part in AAU basketball. Both Robin and Brook Lopez made the decision to enroll at Stanford. The Pac-10 Freshman All-Star team included Brook. He averaged 12.6 points and 6 rebounds per game. As a sophomore, Brook led the team in scoring with 19.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.1 blocks, and 1.5 assists per game. Both the Pac-10 First Team and the All-American Third Team selected him. After two seasons at Stanford, Lopez (both brothers) submitted their NBA Draft declarations in 2008.

Lopez participated in his first All-Star Game during the 2012–2013 campaign. After suffering a foot injury in December 2013, Lopez  sidelined for the rest of the season. In July 2015, he signed a three-year contract extension to rejoin the Nets. During the 2015–2016 campaign, Lopez also rose to become the second-highest career scorer for the Nets.
