Callum Smith is a British professional boxer who is best-known for winning the World Boxing Super Series super-middleweight event in 2018, winning the Muhammad Ali trophy in the process. He has held the WBA (Super) and Ring magazine super-middleweight belts from 2018 to 2020 and at the regional level the British and European super-middleweight titles between 2015 and 2017.

He won a silver medal at welterweight at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and won the WBC International Super Middleweight title in 2013. As of October 2021, he is ranked as the world’s best active light-heavyweight by BoxRec, and tenth-best by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board and the Ring magazine, as well as the eighth-best active boxer, pound for pound, by BoxRec. Smith began his amateur career by representing Rotunda ABC in Liverpool at the domestic level. He won the 2010 Great Britain welterweight title and 2011 Great Britain Middleweight title and GB Boxing internationally. Also, He also fought at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India where he won a silver medal in the welterweight division. He later participated at the 2012 Olympic Games in London when he lost the match in the bitter disappointment and controversy at the final Olympic Qualification Tournament in Trabzon, Turkey to Azerbaijan’s Vatan Husenyli. Smith started his early career in October 2012, under the promotional banner of Matchroom Sport where he was mentored by Manchester-based trainer Joe Gallagher.

He made his first match on the undercard of Carl Froch vs. Yusaf Mack in Nottingham’s Capital FM Arena on 17 November 2012. He secured a convincing points win against Dan Blackwell over four rounds in his debut event. In February 2013, on the undercard of Carl Frampton vs. Kiko Martinez at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, he earned his first stoppage win as a professional, halting Irishman Tommy Tolan. On 25th May 2013, on the Froch–Kessler II card at London’s O2 Arena, he battled unbeaten Ryan Moore (3–0), Smith clearly established his superiority with an astounding fourth consecutive first-round KO. He defeated Patrick Mendy in a British record sixth first-round stoppage and won the vacant English super-middleweight title on 21st September 2013.

He defeated Ruben Eduardo Acosta (27–8, 10 KOs) via sixth-round knockout to claim the vacant WBC International super-middleweight title on 26th October. On 17 May, Smith fought Tobias Webb via 2nd-round knockout to regain the WBC International title. He then defeated 32-year-old southpaw Vladine Biosse through unanimous decision on 12 July. He next fought undefeated Mexican Abraham Hernandez (5–0, 3 KOs) on 16 August. This was Smiths’ first pro fight in the US which he won by first-round KO. On 22 November Smith competed in his first ever 12-round boxing battle. This was also a WBC super-middleweight title eliminator, facing 36-year-old Serbian Nikola Sjekloca (28–2, 8 KOs) (28–2, 8 KOs). He won the bout.

He then returned to action at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham on 9 May 2015 against Latvian Olegs Fedotovs which he won in the first round via TKO. On 7th November, he took on the unbeaten Brit Rocky Fielding (21–0, 12 KOs) at the Echo Arena. He won the vacant British super-middleweight belt. He challenged French boxer Hadillah Mohoumadi (20–3–1, 15 KOs) in the Echo Arena on 2nd April 2016, a WBC super-middleweight championship eliminator and also for the European super-middleweight title. Smith won through first-round TKO. He defeated Cesar Reynoso, through TKO in the sixth round.

He knocked Reynoso down three times in the battle, dropping him with his left hand in rounds one, four, and five. Also, He next fought against Hungarian boxer Norbert Nemesapati which he won. Additionally, He retained his WBC Silver title retiring Nemesapati after six rounds in their scheduled twelve-round battle. He next defends his Lonsdale title against mandatory challenger Luke Blackledge (21–2–2, 7 KOs) (21–2–2, 7 KOs). He successfully defended his British super-middleweight title after halting Blackledge in the tenth round. After that, he fought against Skoglund, Holzken, Groves, N’Dam N’Jikam, Ryder, and Canelo Alvarez at the world boxing super series.
