In 1997, he began playing football with Middlebrough’s youth squad, moving up the ranks. Having nearly 30 goals in all competitions in the 2010–11 season, he was offered a three–year deal in May 2011. He signed a youth loan agreement with Kettering Town on March 2, 2012, and played 12 times for the club, making two goals and one assist across all competitions. He made a one-month loan move to Football League One team Hartlepool United on October 9, 2012.
