The Drinkard Four, a singing group that used to perform at their New Hope Baptist Church, was founded by her older siblings Anne, Larry, and Nicky. The trio then gained Lee and Marie’s involvement and adopted the moniker The Drinkard Singers; they later issued the album A Joyful Noise.
Together with Doris Troy and Dee Dee Warwick, Houston founded the Sweet Inspirations in 1963.
