Clark Hunt is the son of Lamar Hunt, a businessman in the United States who promoted American football, soccer, basketball, tennis, and ice hockey. He also founded AFL, MLS, MLS’s predecessor, NASL, and co-founded World Championship Tennis.

He was known as a sports magnet because he founded and owned the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL, the Kansas City Wizards, the Columbus Crew, and FC Dallas of Major League Soccer. In addition, Lamar was instrumental in the establishment of the Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun theme parks in Kansas City.

Furthermore, his grandfather, H.L. Hunt (February 17, 1889 – November 29, 1974), was an American oil tycoon who died as the world’s richest man. He amassed a fortune in the billions of dollars by exchanging poker winnings for oil rights and eventually acquiring title to a large portion of the East Texas Oil Field, which is one of the world’s largest oil deposits. H.L. Hunt’s three marriages resulted in a total of 15 children (Lyda Bunker, Frania Tye, and Ruth Ray).

Lamar’s second wife was Clark’s mother, Norma Lynn Khobel. They were married in 1964. Lamar was previously married to Rosemary Carr, with whom he had two children, a daughter, Sharron Hunt, and Lamar Jr. is the president and owner of the Kansas City Mavericks professional hockey team. Clark also has a biological brother named Daniel.

Lamar Hunt died on December 13, 2006, as a result of complications from prostate cancer.

Clark Hunt, a Southern Methodist University graduate, began his career as an investment banker with Goldman Sachs for two years. He later returned to Dallas and started working for his father. He assisted his father in running the Kansas City Wizards of the Major League Soccer until the team was sold in 2006. Clark Hunt also owned the MLS’ Columbus Crew until 2013, and he won the franchise’s first MLS Cup on November 23, 2008. He is currently a member of the league’s board of governors and the owner of the MLS club FC Dallas.

Clark was named chairman of the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League in 2005. After his father died in 2006, he and his three siblings inherited the Chiefs, and Clark became the team’s operating manager. He is the franchise’s representative at owner meetings and has the final say on personnel changes.

Clark led the Chiefs to a 12–4 record in 2018 and a first-round playoff bye in the 2019 playoffs. For the first time since 1994, the franchise won the divisional round and advanced to the AFC Championship game. With the win, the Chiefs secured the right to host the event for the first time in franchise history. Nonetheless, the team was defeated in overtime by the Patriots.

The Chiefs finished the 2019 season 12–4 and hosted the AFC Championship game for the second time. He won their first AFC Championship and took home the Lamar Hunt Trophy this time. The Chiefs went on to win Super Bowl LIV, their second in franchise history and the first in five decades.
