Clay Harbor is an American football tight end who now plays for the New Orleans Saints. Harbor has been a free agent with the team since 2017.

Harbor was a four-year letterman in football, basketball, and track at Dwight High School. In his final three seasons, he was named to the All-Interstate 8 Conference in each sport. In football, he set a school record by catching 60 passes for 1079 yards and 19 touchdowns while playing wide receiver and safety.

Habor was first denied a football scholarship, but his brother, Cort, a linebacker for the Missouri State Bears, urged the coaches at Missouri State to give him a shot, and Harbor was awarded a football scholarship.

Clay Harbor redshirted his freshman year at Missouri State. Harbor played in 11 games the next season, two of which he started as wide receiver. In 2006, he caught six passes for 73 yards. He recorded three receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown versus Southwest Baptist University, which was one of his stronger outings. With 40 receptions for 457 yards as a junior, Harbor was the team’s leading receiver. After the season, he was chosen to the Associated Press All-America second team. During his junior season at Missouri State University, he was selected Coors Player of the Week twice. At the same time, he achieved 1000 receiving yards for his career and was awarded first-team All-MVGC for the second straight year. Harbor had 59 receptions for 729 yards as a senior, which was second in the country.

A Professional Life

Harbor began his professional career as a participant at the NFL Scouting Combine. He was one of 20 FCS players chosen to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine. Harbor signed a $2.243 contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, a professional American football team, for the 2010 NFL Draft, with a $453k guarantee. He had nine receptions for 72 yards and one touchdown for the squad in 2010.

He was fired from the team on August 31, 2013. Harbor was claimed off waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars, an American professional football team, on September 1, 2013. He appeared in 16 games at the end of the 2013 season, catching 24 passes for 292 yards and two scores. Harbor signed a contract with the New England Patriots on March 30, 2016, and was released on October 3rd. Harbor then signed with the Detroit Lions on October 4th, 2016. After being released by the Lions, he signed with the New Orleans Saints on May 14, 2017. He was placed on injured reserve four months later.

Harbor was a contestant on season 14 of The Bachelorette, which began on May 28th, 2018. Becca Kufrin, a reality TV star, played an eligible Bachelorette on the show. He, like with the other show’s candidates, is vying for Kufrin’s heart. Clay injured his wrist playing football on a group date during episode three of the dating competition in June 2018, forcing him to leave the show for surgery. He stated in an interview that leaving the show was difficult for him. Then, in August, he will appear in the spin-off show Bachelor in Paradise, which has yet to be announced.
