Coleman Hutzler began his work soon after completing his education. Initially, he began his coaching career as a defensive assistant at the University of San Diego in 2006. Coleman later relocated to Palo Alto and began working as a recruiting assistant at Stanford in 2007. Similarly, he served as an assistant defensive coordinator for the Cardinal.

While at South Carolina, Hutzler  nominated for the Broyles Award. After leaving South Carolina, Hutzler spent one season with Texas. At Texas, his defense  ranked in the top nine in the FBS.Coleman  named special teams coordinator at Ole Miss in 2021, and Alabama a year later. In his first season with the Crimson Tide, Hutzler helped Alabama rank 16th in sacks per game.And in the 2023 season, he helped Alabama’s special teams become one of the best in the country. They ranked sixth in yards per punt and fifteenth in field goal percentage.

Coleman also worked as the special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach at New Mexico for more than a year, from 2012 to 2013. Similarly, he worked for Alabama for two seasons as the outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator.  Hutzler  hired as Mississippi State’s defensive coordinator.
