Damon Stoudamire’s professional basketball career began after being selected by the Toronto Raptors in the 1995 NBA draft.
During his debut season in 1995-96, he finished second in scoring overall. In 1996, he won the NBA Rookie of the Year award. On February 13, 1998, he was moved to the Portland Trail Blazers, where he set an NBA record by shooting 21 3-pointers and scored five of them.
On August 5, 2005, he signed a four-year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, replacing Jason Williams. He missed the majority of his Grizzlies matches due to game-related injuries.

On February 3, 2008, he signed with the San Antonio Spurs, and after playing for them, he retired from the NBA. After that, he began working as a director of player development for Rice University in December 2008.
