Donald Pual Haggerty, a film technicians’ union official, and Ruth Elaine Leonhardt were his parents. Haggerty’s parents divorced when he was three years old, although they remained involved in his childhood.
Dan Haggerty’s Career
Haggerty’s working talents with animals and muscular build landed him his first acting part in Muscle Beach Party, but it was a nonspeaking role, and he also starred in Girl Happy in 1974. He also appeared in a number of biker films, including Easy Rider, Angels Die Hard, and others. In the film When the North Wind Blows, he demonstrated his animal handling skills by training white tigers, a wild boar, and wolverines.

Haggerty was then cast in the film The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams, which became a box office smash and catapulted him to celebrity. Personal Life of Dan Haggerty
Dan Haggerty had two marriages. Danie Rooker, his first wife, married him when he was barely 17 years old in 1959. Their 25-year marriage was a success. The couple has three children: Don, a son, and Tammy and Tracey, two daughters. In the same year that he divorced Rooker, he married Samantha Hilton. He had two sons, Cody and Dylan, and a daughter, Megan, with his second wife.
Samantha Haggerty died in a biking accident on August 10, 2008. He never remarried after that, remaining a widower until his death.
Death
In 1977, Haggerty was involved in a major accident in which he caught fire and suffered third-degree burns, which he survived. In 1991, he was involved in another terrifying motorcycle accident, this time putting him in a coma. He needed 200 stitches to close the wound on his forehead, and his pelvis was broken. He made it through that as well.
He survived two near-death experiences before succumbing to cancer. Haggerty was diagnosed with spine cancer in August 2015, after undergoing back surgery. He died of the cancer in Burbank, California, in January 2016.
