She photographed her childhood Lenci doll, Edith, with two teddy bears she had bought at FAO Schwarz in 1957 for her first children’s book, The Lonely Doll. The New York Times’ list of best sellers for children’s books featured this book as one of the top sellers.

Dare Wright was a Canadian-American writer, photographer, and model who lived from December 3, 1914, to January 25, 2001. Although Wright was born and raised in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada’s Thornhill neighborhood, she spent the majority of her early years there.
She was raised by her mother, portrait artist Edith Stevenson Wright, after her parents divorced when she was a young child; her brother, Blaine, moved in with his father, theater critic Ivan Wright, in New York City. Sad to say, Dare never met her brother before moving to New York City.
In 1933, Wright moved to New York to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts after receiving his first diploma from the Laurel School in Shaker Heights. Personal Life of Dare Wright
Regarding her private life, Dared Wright, despite numerous marriage proposals, remained close to her mother throughout her adult life. Her brother Blaine’s wartime British friend Philip Sandeman canceled a date with Dare back then in 1948. Philip unfortunately perished in a plane crash. She followed her passion for photography and has been in the relationship ever since.
And after the deaths of her brother in 1985 and her mother in 1975. Due to respiratory failure, she was transferred to Roosevelt Island’s Goldwater Memorial Hospital in May 1995.
