Playing career
The Denver Nuggets signed Ham as a free agent on October 1, 1996. Denver later gave him to the Indiana Pacers in February 1997 in exchange for Jerome Allen. Later, Ham signed free-agent contracts with the Milwaukee Bucks (1997), Washington Wizards (1997), Detroit Pistons (2002), and Atlanta Hawks(2003). Ham took part in the 1997 NBA Slam Dunk Contest and played for the 2004 NBA champion Detroit Pistons. His powerful slams became him a crowd favorite while he was with the Milwaukee Bucks, earning him the nicknames “Dunkin Darvin” and “Ham Slamwich,” which he kept for the rest of his career.
Ham participated in the Dominican Republic program in 2015 as well as the Johannesburg, South Africa-based Basketball Without Borders program in 2005.
