With his funds, he founded Appaloosa Management in 1993. He made 61 percent in 2001 by focusing on distressed bonds. Tepper is always on the lookout for multi-role companies like MCI and Mirant. His investments in Concurso and Marconi paid off handsomely. According to The New York Times, his hedge fund made $7 billion in 2009 by buying distressed assets and then profiting from their repossession, making him the most highly regarded.
