International Career

When the Netherlands U-16 team defeated Italy U-16 3-0 on October 28, 2008, in the 10th edition of the Tournoi Val de Marne ’08, Davy Klaassen made his debut for the Dutch national team at the youth levels. On September 22, 2009, he made his debut for the Netherlands U17 squad against France U17 in a friendly match that resulted in a 1-0 loss for the Dutch. In his eighth appearance, a friendly game against Greece U17 on March 3, 2010, he scored his first goal for the under-17 team. Later, on September 2, 2010, he made his debut for the Netherlands U19 squad against Germany U19 in a friendly game that finished in a 2-2 tie. He made his under-21 team debut on October 10, 2013, in a qualification game that the Dutch won 6-0 with his substitution of Luc Castaignos in the 81st minute. He reportedly made his first appearance for the Netherlands first team under head coach Louis van Gaal on March 5, 2014, at the Stade de France in Paris, during a pre-2014 FIFA World Cup friendly match against France. Later, on March 31, 2015, in a friendly match against Spain, he scored the team’s second goal and his first goal for his country.
