Dennis Haysbert is an American actor and voice actor best recognized for his appearances in Allstate insurance commercials. He is most known for his roles as a US Senator and US President on the first five seasons of 24 and in films such as Love Field, Heat, Waiting to Exhale, and Far from Heaven.

Dennis is the son of Gladys, a house cleaner and homemaker, and Charles Whitney Haysbert, Sr., a deputy sheriff and airline security guard, and he was born in San Mateo, California. He has eight other siblings, two of whom are sisters and six of whom are brothers.
He graduated from San Mateo High School in 1972 and was granted an athletic scholarship because of his height, but he chose to study acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts instead. In 1978, he made his first appearance on screen in the film Lou Grant.

He landed in his first movie and did scoring just one year later, in Lou Grant. The Significant League, which was a 1989 smash, was his first major film.
