Dwyer was selected by Sporting Kansas City as the 16th overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. He made his professional debut against FC Dallas on March 25 as an unused substitute. On May 29, he made his Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup debut in a 3-2 victory over Orlando City. His team went on to win the competition. On September 2, Dwyer made his MLS debut, taking Sapong’s place for the final four minutes of a 2-1 victory.
