Following that triumph, the trio published “Bible Stories,” which debuted at the top of the same charts in 1995. Included on the debut album under the Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers label were popular black church songs such as “A Message For The Saints,” “I Am God,” and “Stranger.” Sparrow Records handled the album’s distribution for Lawrence’s recently established Crystal Rose Records.

Continued his successful musical career

Karen Clark Sheard’s 1997 Grammy-nominated debut, “Finally Karen,” had a live segment that he produced. Lawrence & Tri-City released the holiday single “Hello Christmas” in the same year. In the year 2000, Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers became signed to EMI Gospel.

A maxi CD with the lead song “Testify” was made available to the public in order to promote the new album. The house remixes by Junior Vasquez helped the song climb to #33 on the Mainstream Dance Charts of Billboard.

Tri-City4.com finally launched in 2001, peaking at number two on the Top Gospel Charts of Billboard and number thirteen on the Heatseekers Charts of Billboard. 2004 saw the release of Lawrence’s first solo album, “I Speak Life,” which also marked the start of his recording contract with Verity Records and the first album under his new sublabel, Quiet Water Entertainment.

The CD included a ton of guest appearances even without The Tri-City Singers. The record features contributions from Carl Thomas, Richard Smallwood, Faith Evans, Hezekiah Walker, and Donnie McClurkin. The legendary jazz performers Lalah Hathaway and Ramsey Lewis were present for a rendition of the Bible Story hit “Don’t Forget To Remember.”

The Tri-City singer announced retirement

In March 2006, the Tri-City Singers declared their retirement, but not before doing one more live recording. Finale: Act One and Finale: Act Two were released simultaneously on April 4, 2006. Each release consisted of a CD/DVD combo with interlocking packaging that contained the audio and visuals from one half of the concert.

Eventually, Finale was released on CD and DVD in a special edition. “The Blessing of Abraham,” the album’s popular single, was nominated for a Grammy in December 2006 for Best Gospel Performance. The Law of Confession Part I, his second solo album, was released in February 2009.

Donald later announced in an interview that he was working on other projects but that The Law of Confession, Part II would be released shortly. He presented Living Word and made an appearance on Bill Winston’s “Released” title tune. In addition, he hosted the Verizon “How Sweet The Sound Choir Competition.”

The gospel singer received a Grammy Award in 2007 in addition to three Stellar Awards in 2006., 2007 and 2008. Furthermore, he has received multiple Grammy award nominations.
