Leicester Tigers

During the 2009–2010 season, while playing for Leicester Tigers, he filled in for England international locks Louis Deacon and Geoff Parling who were sidelined due to long-term injuries. He received the Tigers’ Player of the Month title for October 2010 as a result of his efforts, and in his rookie season, he appeared in over 30 games for the team.

In the 2010–2011 season, he also assisted the Tigers in finishing first and advancing to the Aviva Premiership final. Slater’s strong 2012–2013 season culminated in a Premiership winners medal; he was a substitute in the championship game. He led the Tigers in both the 2014–2015 (despite missing much of the season due to injury, he returned to lead the team for the final 10 games) and 2015–2016 seasons.
