The grandmother of two, who was 34 years old and worked as a teacher in the community, was the granddaughter of a local billionaire.

In the early hours of Friday morning, she was kidnapped while jogging in the area around the University of Memphis campus.

Cleotha Abston, a 38-year-old man with a prior conviction for kidnapping, has been charged with the kidnapping and murder of Ms. Fletcher. The charges stem from an incident that occurred in 2014.

After the body of her loved one was found, her family issued a statement in which they expressed how “heartbroken and devastated” they were.

They said that Liza brought so much happiness to her family, friends, colleagues, students, parents, members of the congregation at her Second Presbyterian Church, and anyone else who knew her. “Liza was such a joy to so many,” they said.

“Now is the time to remember and celebrate how extraordinary she was, and to offer support to those who cared so deeply for her,” you said.

Ms. Fletcher was well-known in the community and was the granddaughter of the late Joseph Orgill III, a local hardware magnate and philanthropist who amassed a billion dollars during his lifetime. There are reports that his company is now worth more than $3 billion (£2.6 billion) and employs more than 5,000 people.

Instead of working for the family business, Ms. Fletcher was a junior kindergarten teacher at St. Mary’s Episcopal School.

On Friday morning, around 4:00 local time, she vanished into thin air. According to the documents provided by the police, surveillance footage captured a man approaching Ms. Fletcher, getting into a physical altercation with her, and then forcing her into a black SUV.

Her family has offered a reward of up to $50,000 (£43,330) for any information that may lead to the whereabouts of their loved one after it was discovered that she did not return home on Friday after her early morning run.

Monday afternoon at approximately 17:07, the Memphis Police Department reported that officers located a body, but they emphasized that no identification had been made.

Police corroborated this information after analyzing security footage; she was abducted and shoved into a dark-colored SUV at around 4:30 a.m., close to the intersection of Central Avenue and Zach H. Curlin Street.

She may have thrown her water bottle and cell phone on the ground during the brief altercation; the phone was found broken. Police recovered a few of her belongings at the scene and have taken everything away for further investigation. Fitness fanatic Fletcher is known to have frequented that route when jogging.

When Fletcher failed to return home, she was reported missing at 7 a.m. Eliza Fletcher’s family is requesting her safe return and is offering a $50,000 reward for any information that leads to her return.
