The Los Angeles Times and the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin both named Weddle to their first-team all-area teams. He was named second-team All-Southern Section and all-region by Rivals.com and Student Sports Magazine.
Professional Career of Eric Weddle
The Chargers traded the 62nd (2nd) pick, the 93rd (3rd), the 167th (5th), and a 2008 3rd rounder to the Chicago Bears in the 2007 NFL Draft for the right to move up to the 37th pick and select Weddle.
Weddle began the 2007 season as the backup strong safety to Clinton Hart. He was also known as the team’s dime back, appearing in 2nd/3rd and long situations as well as serving as the backup holder on special teams.
Weddle had a breakout season in 2011, tallying 88 tackles and a career-high seven interceptions. With late-fourth-quarter interceptions, he became only the third Chargers defender in the previous 20 years to help seal two early-season back-to-back wins.
Weddle recorded his first interception as a Raven on September 19, 2016, in a 25-20 comeback victory over Josh McCown and the Cleveland Browns. It was also Weddle’s 20th interception of his career. Weddle was named to his fourth Pro Bowl as an alternate, and his first as a Raven.
