Early Life and Education

Dando was born in Essex, Massachusetts, on March 4, 1967. Susan Dando, a former fashion model, is his mother’s name. Jeffrey Dando was his father’s name, and he worked as a real estate attorney. His family relocated to Boston’s North Shore when he was ten years old. Dando’s parents divorced when he was 12 years old.

In the 1980s, he became interested in hardcore punk music, falling in love with bands like Hüsker Dü and Replacements, who used rock, acoustic, and psychedelic sounds to lighten the traditional anger. Evan went to Boston’s Commonwealth School. To further his education, he enrolls at Skidmore College. Dando then drops out of school to seek a career as a musician.

Professional Life and Career

Evan Dando has had a successful career. With his classmate Ben Deily (drums) and Jesse Peretz, he formed the Whelps in 1986. (on bass). They play punk rock songs together and changed their name to Lemonheads in 1987. Laughing All the Way to the Cleaners is the title of their debut album. The Lemonheads’ albums Hate Your Friends, Creator, and Lick are published by the local label Taang! Until 1989, when Deily departs the band after a European tour in promotion of the album Lick, Dando and Deily split songwriting and vocal duties. He starred alongside Liv Tyler in the 1995 picture Heavy.

As a result, Dando hires drummer David Ryan, with whom he co-produces the album Lovey, which sells only 30,000 copies in 1990. Dando tries to rectify the situation by going to Australia with his buddies Nic Dalton and Tom Morgan to record some tunes. These songs are the foundation of It’s a Shame About Ray, the critically praised album that catapulted the Lemonheads to fame. The band’s success corresponds with a shift toward softer mainstream sounds, eschewing the punk elements of the band’s early years. In 1996 (after the release of the “Car Button Cloth” album), the social code that has served as a bond for over 10 years disintegrates.
