Ngannou was destined to fight from the moment he was born. His entire life has centred around battles: battles for survival, battles for scholarships, battles for the dream, and so on.
He was born in a poor community in Batie, Cameroon, and began working in a sand quarry at the age of ten to help support his family.
He spent much of his school days feeling ashamed outside the classroom, where every student who walked by teased him because he couldn’t buy even a pen and paper.
Somehow he was able to work like an adult by the age of thirteen. He dropped out of school when he was 17 and worked as a motorcycle taxi driver until he was 22.
When he recognized it was past time to pursue his dream of being a martial artist, he began boxing to satisfy his desire to try something new.
While pursuing his passion, he found how fascinating boxing was, which was not only about fighting but also about falling and standing back.
At the age of 25, he said his goodbyes to his family and embarked on a three-week expedition that began in Morocco.
He attempted to cross into Spain numerous times but was apprehended by Moroccan authorities.
When he arrived in France at the age of 27, he went straight to the gym and informed them that he was broke but motivated to learn.
He had his first professional bout four months after starting, although he eventually went on to compete in the UFC.
How did he end up fighting in the UFC?
Ngannou had no idea what UFC was since he was a child; he only saw TV twice, once when his father brought home others for repair and again when he stayed with relatives in the city.
He admits to viewing the UFC fight a few times in the pub but had no idea what it was until he arrived in France in 2013 at the age of 27.
Although he was a boxer, but Fernand Lopez, a former Cameroonian mixed martial artist and current MMA coach, saw his potential in MMA and recommended him to pursue it in order to get out of the circumstances he was in.
When he first heard the term MMA, he was unsure what he was talking about and required clarification.
He rejected at the time because he was focused on boxing and aspired to be like his idol, Mike Tyson. He went to the gym, which was a cross fight MMA factory, a few months later.
Since Lopez enabled him to practice and sleep in the gym for free, he was performing boxing in the MMA. After two months, he was approached with an offer to participate in an MMA battle, which he accepted.

Then he was rewarded 2000 euros in the next event, which was a great sum for him at the moment. He accepted an offer from the United States two years after receiving it.
He understood he didn’t want to be like his father from a young age.
While many individuals regard their father to be their hero, Ngannou was not one of them.
When Ngannou’s parents divorced, he was six years old. He despised it when people suggested he’d be like his father, and he used to believe he’d never be like him.
In 2001, his father passed away. Whatever his relationship with his father was like, he sent a heartfelt greeting to him on Father’s Day in 2021, wishing him a nice day. He wishes he was still there with them.
Dream to be a boxer
Because he has not given up, Hgannou’s ambition of becoming a boxer is still alive. He is still hopeful that he would be able to realize his ambition.
