Melton served on the national board of directors of Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI), the Liberty Broadcasting Board of Directors, and the NBC Affiliates Board of Directors. He was on the boards of Liberty Broadcasting, Wave, Community Broadcast Group, and NBC Affiliates.
Furthermore, in April 2006, Melton reprimanded Hinds County District Attorney Faye Peterson for failing to call his star witness, Christopher Walker, to testify against Albert “Batman” Donelson, the purported leader of the Wood Street Players.
