Gangsta Boo, a former member of the hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia and a Southern rapper, has died. She was 43 years old.
Lola “Gangsta Boo” Mitchell was discovered dead in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, on Sunday. The cause of death was not disclosed.
“The Mitchell family would like to thank everyone for their sympathies over Lola “Gangsta Boo” Mitchell’s tragic passing,” the rapper’s mother Veronica Mitchell and family stated in a statement released Monday. “The family requests your continued prayers and solitude as we grieve the loss of a loved one.”
When DJ Paul, a founding member of Three 6 Mafia, saw her at the age of 14, she had already begun her career. By the age of 15, she had joined the rap collective, which included DJ Paul, Juicy J, Crunchy Black, and Lord Infamous.
Gangsta Boo rose to prominence with her shoot-from-the-hip, rapid-fire lyrical style on Three 6 Mafia’s cult classic 1995 debut album, “Mystic Stylez.” She appeared on five other albums by the band, including “Chapter 2: World Domination” and the platinum-selling “When the Smoke Clears: Sixty, Sixty, One.”

Her debut solo album, “Enquiring Minds,” was released in 1998. The album’s standout track was “Where Dem Dollas At,” which featured Juicy J and DJ Paul.

She departed Three 6 Mafia after the publication of “Choices: The Album” in 2001 to pursue a solo career. Her sophomore album, “Both Worlds (asterisk) 69,” debuted at No. 29 on the Billboard 200 chart. “Enquiring Minds II: The Soap Opera,” her third album, out in 2003.
Throughout her career, Gangsta Boo has collaborated with well-known artists, including OutKast, Eminem, Gucci Mane, Lil Jon, E-40, and T.I. She appeared on Latto’s “FTCU” this year, alongside GloRilla.
Gangsta inform last month that her fourth studio album, “The BooPrint,” would be release this year. She shot an unreleased video for “Imma Mack” with producer Drumma Boy last week.
“Gangsta Boo treated me like a sister and informed the world about me the way my biological brother did,” Drumma Boy stated in a statement. “We’re both Leos with the same enthusiasm for togetherness. And making others happy!” This is a heartbreaking loss because she was always rooting for others to succeed! “RIP, Queen of Memphis, you will always be my sister.”
