Gong Ji Cheol (/) is Gong Yoo’s birth name. Gong, who was born on July 10, 1979, is 44 years old. Yoo was born in Busan, South Korea, and he is a Cancer. Gong Yoo’s name is written in both Korean and Hanja.  It’s also spelled Gong Yu or Kong Yu. Gong Yoo is also his stage name. It is actually a mash-up of his parents’ surnames. His father’s surname is “Gong,” and his mother’s surname is “Yoo.”

Gong Yoo revealed in 2017 that he was a descendant of the Chinese philosopher Confucius. Yoo was also revealed to be a member of the 79th generation of Confucius’ descendants descended from the Gokbu Gong clan. Following Military Service

Following his military service, Gong collaborated on Finding Mr. Destiny with actress Im Soo Jung. He then collaborated with actress Jung Yu-mi on Silenced. For this film, the actor initiated and pursued the production of Arthur Miller’s novel The Crucible. On September 22, 2011, it was released in the United Kingdom under the title Silenced.

This film sparked public outrage upon its release, prompting the reopening of the investigations into the incidents on which the film and novel were based.

In late October 2011, the Dogani Bill, named after the Korean title of the film, was successfully passed. The National Assembly revised this bill as part of a legislative reform to target sex crimes against minors and the disabled.

Similarly, Gong Yoo co-starred in Big with actress Lee Min-jung. He then played an elite North Korean spy in the 2013 film The Suspect.

Ambassadorships

Furthermore, in November 2013, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Korea appointed Gong Yoo as its special representative. He was appointed to commemorate the 24th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

Following that, the actor traveled around the world to raise awareness about the plight of children in developing countries. Similarly, on July 7, 2014, he was appointed as the ambassador for the National Tax Service (NTS).

Gong also appeared as Goblin/Kim Shin in Guardian: The Lonely and Great God in December 2016. He collaborated with well-known actors such as Kim Go Eun, Lee Dong Wook, Yoo In-na, and Yook Sung Jae. He was named “Best Actor” at the Baeksang Awards for his portrayal of Goblin.
