American-Filipino journalist Hazel Sanchez was born in 1972. Her parents are retired physician Dr. Manuel M. Sanchez and Carlota R. Sanchez. From 1990 until 1994, Sanchez attended Marquette University, a private university in Wisconsin, to study broadcast journalism.

She spent the years 1994 to 2000 as a Weekend Anchor and Assignment Reporter at WBAY-TV after graduating. Also, she then worked as the Assignment Reporter and Anchor for WCBS CBSN New York from 2000 to 2001.
